PASS invited to join national "Leading Practices Database" for the Joint Commission
Dear Dr. Connors,
I am contacting you at the suggestion of Dr. Robert Wise, Vice President of Standards and Survey Methods, and Dr. Ann Scott-Blouin, Executive Vice President of Accreditation and Certification Operations. I understand that your organization, East Tennessee Children's Hospital, was identified by one of our surveyors, Dr. Michael Norman, as having excellent practices in the area of sedation. I further understand that you are the President-elect of the Society for Pediatric Sedation, and that you are willing to share your ideas with us and with other healthcare providers.
I am leading a team of Joint Commission employees in the creation of a new Leading Practices Database. The purpose of this project is to provide a forum for sharing leading practices in order to promote quality and safety across our accredited organizations. At this time, we are reviewing several hundred documents that have been submitted at the suggestion of our surveyors. When each of these is approved, it is made available to our surveyors to share with our accredited customers during the survey process. Later this year, hopefully during the summer, we hope to open this database to all our accredited organizations for their use.
If you are interested, please email me electronic copies of the practices you would like to submit. If you do not have the documents in an electronic format, you may fax them to me at the number below.
Thank you for your generosity and your willingness to help others improve safety and quality. I'll hope to hear from you soon. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or if I can help in any way.
Best regards,
Louise Kuhny, RN, MPH, MBA, CIC
Senior Associate Director, Standards Interpretation
The Joint Commission
